 Buhari To Earn N14 Million, Osinbajo N12 Million As Annual Salary, Allowances!
  The Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission has announced on their website the amount President Muhammudu Buhari and vice-president, Yemi Osinbajo, will be earning annually during their four years in office.
  Nigeria’s new president, Muhammadu Buhari, and his deputy, Yemi Osinbajo, will earn annual basic salaries of N3, 514, 705 and N3, 031, 572.50 respectively, according to the information on the website of the Revenue Mobilization Allocation and Fiscal Commission.
  The RMAFC is statutorily empowered by Section 32 (d) of Part 1 of the Third Schedule of the Constitution to determine the remuneration appropriate for political office holders.
  Apart from the salaries, the president is entitled to various regular allowances like: Hardship, 50 per cent of the basic salary – N1, 757, 350.50; consistency – 250 per cent, N8, 786, 762.50. Other regular allowances like motor vehicle fuelling and maintenance, special assistant, personal assistant, domestic staff, entertainment, utilities, security and Newspapers and periodicals are to be provided by the government – not paid for.

 Allowances like accommodation, furniture, and duty tour allowance (per night), estacode (per night) and medical allowances are also to be provided as requested.
 The allowances are paid periodically, some monthly, a few once in four years. Duty Tour Allowance and Estacode depend on travels. For instance, furniture allowance to other cadre of officials, like ministers and the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, is given once in four years. The President and Vice President are not paid furniture allowance as they are provided for. When all allowances payable each month are added, President Buhari will take home N1, 171,568.33 each month, and N14, 058, 820.00 yearly. Vice President Osinbajo will receive N1, 010, 524. 17 monthly, and N12, 126,290.00 per annum. Details of Allowances The president’s severance gratuity is N10, 544, 115, that is 300 per cent of basic; he is entitled to a leave allowance of N351, 470. 50, (10 per cent of basic salary) and an optional motor vehicle loan of N14, 058, 820, at 400 per cent to be repaid before the expiration of the president’s tenure.
   Mr. Osinbajo will also get allowances such as motor vehicle, feeding and maintenance, special assistant, personal assistant, domestic staff, entertainment utility, security, newspaper and periodicals.
  While the number two man’s hardship, consistency, severance gratuity and leave allowance are at N1, 515, 786.25; N7, 578, 931.25; N9, 094, 717.50 and N303, 157.25 respectively.
  He will also receive a motor vehicle loan at 400 per cent of his basic salary which is N12, 126, 290; to be repaid at the expiration of his tenure. The salaries and allowances are drawn from the Consolidated Revenue Fund.

The current salary structure and allowances were fixed by the RMAFC in 2007.
   Before the review, the basic annual salary of the then president, Olusegun Obasanjo, was N2,586,000 per annum, while that of his deputy, Atiku Abubakar was N1,938,000 the same as that of the Chief Justice of Nigeria and the Senate President, both heads of the judiciary and the legislature.
  This was as a result of the review of the salary structure and associated allowances for the top federal public office holders earlier carried out by the National Salaries and Wages Commission. Girl dies after being electrocuted by power bank in Ghana

A young Ghanaian girl identified as Blandine (pictured above) was on May 25th electrocuted to death after the power bank she was using to charge her phone got stuck on her skin and electrocuted her.  The President-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari, has stated that his administration will work towards the empowerment of Nigerian youths within his first six months in office. Buhari stated this on Tuesday at a symposium with the theme: “Maximizing the potentials of Nigerian youths as Economic Drivers for a secured nation in the next dispensation,” organised by Buhari Volunteers Network (BVN). “Let the government be on ground, we will tackle each problem one at a time. The issue of probe, yes, we have to investigate before prosecution, we have to know who spend the money and where the money went to.

Man Steals Car To Allegedly Save A Friend With Kidney Failure

A 55-year-old transporter, identified as Alhaji Ramon Adeleke who was rounded off with his friend recently by the operatives of Special Anti-Robbery Squad, SARS, has said he went into robbery to save the life of his friend who has kidney failure. Adeleke was caught alongside his friend Lukmon Shoyoye on Close-Circuit Television CCTV in front of a hotel stealing a parked Toyota Corolla around Allen Avenue, at midnight. Adeleke who confessed to committing the crime, said that, “I gave the money to my friend, Chief Kola, who had kidney problem because he was very sick.” In his account,“I live in Obilegun Street in Iba, Lagos and married with four children. I am a landlord in Lagos. “My friend and I went to Airport Hotel at night and at dawn, we stole a Toyota Corolla 2003 model, parked in the hotel. While we were stealing the vehicle, I did not know that the CCTV captured us. “I took the car to Alhaji who bought it for N400, 000. I gave the money to my friend Chief Kola, who had kidney problem because he was very sick. I gave Lukmon, who went to the operation with me, N80,000.” 38-year-old Lukmon Shoyoye however reiterated in his own defence that, “I have known Ramon for several years. We met when he came to fix the glass of his commercial vehicle. Sometime around November 2014, Ramon called me on phone and said he wanted to see me. “When we met, he said he wants me to escort him. He told me he wants to seize the vehicle of a friend who owed him but refused to pay. I neither planned nor discussed the operation with him. “We drove to Allen at about 12 midnight. I became suspicious of his mission when he stole a car that was parked in the hotel. It was Ramon that forced the door of the vehicle open. “It was when we left the scene that it occurred to me that he actually stole a car. I drove my four-runner Jeep, while he drove the stolen vehicle. He went alone to Ile-Epo to sell the vehicle. “I do not know for how much he sold the car, but he gave me N80,000 which I used to pay my children’s school fees. I was arrested after Ramon was arrested. “I am from Abeokuta in Ogun State and married with six children. I am an aluminium fabricator.” The stolen vehicle has since been recovered while the suspects will be charged to court soon.

Marketers Call Off Strike, Fuel To Circulates In Six Hours

The major oil marketers association of Nigeria (MOMAN) has reached an agreement with the federal government to begin lifting of petroleum products across the country “in six hours”. Petroleum products marketers and the Federal Government on Monday have set aside their face-off resolved with government, resolving to immediately mobilise to ensure restoration of normal supply of fuel throughout the country. At the end of a meeting convened by the Senate Committee on Petroleum (Upstream and downstream) to resolve the crisis, Chairman, Major Oil Marketers Association of Nigeria (MOMAN), Obafemi Olawore, said its members, consisting Oando, Conoil, Forte Oil, MRS, Total and Mobil Oil agreed to commence lifting and distribution of fuel immediately from the stock supplied by the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Capital Oil and Gas Ltd had on Sunday commenced the loading of 13 million litres of petrol from its depot in Apapa for distribution to the various states to reduce the current scarcity. The Chairman of the company, Ifeayin Ubah, told journalists in Lagos that more than 2,000 trucks would be loaded before May 29 to boost the country’s economic activities. He said the company’s facilities had the capacity to load 13 million litres of the product within the period. “This comes to approximately 500 trucks of petroleum products on daily basis. With this, it is our belief that once again our citizens will begin to smile and return to normal family and work life. “We call on other petroleum marketers to follow suit and save our nation from this impending economic and social crisis,’’ he said.

A radio station named Radio Biafra operating from an unknown location in Rivers State has hit the airwaves.
  According to DAILY POST, the station can be heard on 88.0 FM dial. The station is said to have just one radio personality named “Director,” and he often refers to listeners as “the indigenous people of Biafra.” Here is the report on the purported radio station:
  The anonymous Director, in one of his broadcasts, took a swipe at both the incumbent President and the President-elect for their recent activities. He consistently makes comments pitching the North and the West against the Niger-Delta, stressing people of the Niger-Delta were being “enslaved in Nigeria” which he refers to as a “zoo”.
  Taking a cue from the recent comments credited to the Oba of Lagos, HRM Rilwan Akinolu on the Igbo community in Lagos in the run-off to the Governorship election, the anonymous voice on Radio Biafra said words like ‘non-indigene’ should not be used in a country that claims it is united. “See ordinary Oba Akinolu calling you people non-indigene in your own country. If you are travelling from Lagos through the Lagos-Ibadan express way, you will see black pipelines. They are all oil pipelines. The oil is coming from Biafra land to Yoruba land, yet they call you non-indigenes. “When it comes to the issue of oil, we are one Nigeria but when it is time for the igbos to vote and look after their families, they turn to non-indigenes”.
  The voice further said, “You are leaving a solid economy behind when you have the lives of the people miserable. Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala has been lying to the people of Biafra because of President Goodluck Jonathan. How can a woman who claims she was at the world bank be lying? Please show me the part of the economy that has solid backing. “Let Jonathan tell you which part of the economy he has solidified. Woman Buys 2 Babies For N1.9m In Lagos.

The police in Lagos State, western Nigeria, have arrested a 52-year old woman identified as Mrs. Olamide Bello for allegedly buying twin babies for N1.9 million. According to P.M.NEWS findings, the suspect who resides at 8, Adeniji Street, Meiran, a suburb of Lagos State, with her husband and step-children, told her husband, Mr. Wasiu Bello, that she was pregnant and that she has been instructed to go and deliver of the baby in Port Harcourt, the Rivers State capital in southern Nigeria. Mrs. Bello was alleged to have spent two weeks in Port Harcourt before returning to Lagos with twin babies, a boy and a girl, claiming that she gave birth to them. Curious neighbours who never saw her with pregnancy prior to her trip to Port Harcourt alerted the police at Alakuko, alleging that they suspected that the woman may have stolen the babies. Sources said the Divisional Police Officer in charge of Alakuko Police Station, Mr. Musa Alimi, a Chief Superintendent of Police, CSP, instructed some female detectives to investigate the allegation. P.M.NEWS learnt that when Mrs. Bello was confronted by the female detectives, she insisted that she gave birth to the twins and also suggested the police should take her to a medical doctor to confirm her claim. It was at the hospital that doctors confirmed that she is not the biological mother of the babies. At that point she had to confess that she bought the babies in Port Harcourt for N1.9 million. When her husband, Mr. Wasiu Bello, was arrested and interrogated, he told the police that his wife told him that she was pregnant and wanted to go and deliver of the baby in Port Harcourt. He said he obliged only for her to come back with the babies claiming she gave birth to twins. He dissociated himself from the crime.
  When P.M.NEWS visited Alakuko Police Station to get the police side of the story, the DPO in charge of the station, CSP Musa Alimi, declined to comment on the arrest, saying he had already transferred the case to Lagos State Criminal Investigation Department, SCID, Smith Street, Panti, Lagos State. All efforts to speak with the Lagos State Police Comamand image maker, Mr. Ken Nwosu proved abortive as his two mobile lines were switched off.
  He also failed to respond to the message sent to his Airtel line at the time of filing in this report.

Buhari Shocks APC Governors, Rejects Ministerial List

Source:Tribune NG  PRESIDENT-elect, General Muhammadu Buhari appeared to have dashed the hopes of the governors elected on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) when he rejected their plans to submit a ministerial list to him. The APC governors, led by Governor Rochas Okorocha of Imo State, had, last Tuesday, visited Buhari in Abuja to pledge loyalty and make some demands. At the meeting, some requests were placed on the table openly, while the request to drop the list of possible ministers came up for discussion behind the closed door. Sources close to the meeting between the governors and General Buhari indicated that the state chief executives came out of the visit with heavy minds. Planning to maintain the tradition already instituted by the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) where the state governors as party leaders in the states are requested to submit list of possible ministers and Ambassadorial appointees to the president, the governors threw the request at Buhari. But it was learnt that the General rejected the proposal and declared that the Constitution does not mandate him to take a list of ministerial nominees from them. The president-elect was also said to have rejected the call for a bailout for the states that have been unable to pay salaries, with a source informing Sunday Tribune that the General flatly rejected the proposal, saying the he was aware the Federal Government was not owing the states their allocations. A source close to the discussion told the Sunday Tribune that General Buhari told the governors that those of them in their second terms could not complain about the state of government finances, as they have all been collecting allocations from the Federal Government all along. A source in the know said: “The governors practically went out of the visit with their tails between their legs. The General first threw aside the request that he grant bailout to the states. He told them that the governors going for second term in office cannot complain about the state of the economy, having collected all their allocations to date from the Federal Government. He ruled out the possibility of bailout. “The General was also very unequivocal when he was told that the governors want to submit a ministerial list to him.He clearly said he cannot go into that discussion. He insisted that the Constitution does not mandate him to collect such list from the governors and that the state chief executives should concentrate on sourcing good materials that would help them run the states adequately.” The source quoted Buhari as saying that “I do not think we can discuss that issue of Ministerial list. The Constitution clearly does not mandate me to take a list from the governors. To me, the governors should concentrate on getting good hands to help them in discharging their duties in the states.” The APC governors had made a meal out of their meeting with General Buhari last week, with media reports indicating that they were in Abuja to submit ministerial lists to the president-elect. But the sources said that they left the meeting disappointed, as the General turned down their two major requests.

Dont pay for bail again -IGP

Over the period, the police authorities have stressed that the payment for bail at police stations is illegal. Again, the Acting Inspector General of Police, Solomon Arase, has stated that it is improper for police officers to request for money from suspects for bail. Arase warned that he will no longer accept such from his men because his administration will have zero tolerance for corruption. The police chief said he will not hesitate to prosecute any officer found guilty of such crime. Arase, addressing officers at his maiden visit to the Lagos State Police Command in Ikeja, also warned that henceforth, every police officer must have sufficient evidence to arrest and interrogate any suspect, which is the normal practice worldwide. The police boss said he is ready to “resurrect the Enugu Intelligence Training School” to enhance the intelligence gathering of the Force. He added that officers would be retrained regularly to keep them abreast of the latest form of policing. “I want to discourage custodian approach to policing,” Arase said, explaining that “this will reduce the cases of seeking for bail and unnecessary detention of suspects in our cells.” “To put a stop to the issue of bribery, we have a platform in the Nigeria Police; in the intelligence department attending to all complains especially in the area of corruption,” he stated. Arase advised his men to “feel free to send any complaint to that department,” stressing that “bail is free and all those offering money to the police are also corrupt.” “I am passionate about the intelligence school that is why I am determined to invest on capacity building. I am going to resurrect the Enugu Intelligence Training School and ensure that officers are trained and retrained. They need to be up to date with the modern trend of investigation. It’s obvious that they do things out of ignorance,” the top cop said.

General Buhari’s ministers, lawmakers to get N9bn housing, furniture allowance

  Senators and members of the House of Representatives that will constitute the 8th National Assembly and ministers to be appointed by President-elect, Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.), will on assumption of office receive welcome perks amounting to N9bn. The perks of office include the housing allowance which each of the incoming office holder is entitled to receive once a year, the furniture allowance which they are entitled to once in four years and motor vehicle loan which they are entitled to once in their tenure. The perks are some of the non-regular allowances that the political office holders are entitled to as prescribed by the Revenue Mobilisation, Allocation and Fiscal Commission.  
  There are other allowances, both regular and irregular ones, but housing, furniture and motor vehicle are paid at the beginning of the tenure of the office holders to ensure that they settle down appropriately. Housing allowance for the political office holders is 200 per cent of their annual salaries; furniture is 300 per cent and motor vehicle loan is 400 per cent. The eighth National Assembly will be inaugurated by Buhari on June 5 after the expiration of the tenure and dissolution of the 7th National Assembly on the same date. Membership of the eighth National Assembly include 109 senators and 360 members of the House of Representatives elected on the platform of different political parties from across the country. Investigation by one of our correspondents showed that each of the senators would be paid N4, 052,800 on the assumption of office as housing allowance. They will also be paid the same amount every year because the housing allowance is on annual basis. This means that 107 senators will be paid a total of N433, 649,600m as housing allowance annually. The Senate President and the Deputy Senate President are not entitled to this allowance because their own accommodation is to be provided by the Federal Government. Similarly, each member of the House of Representatives will be paid N3, 970,425 as housing allowance on assumption of office. This means that the 358 representatives will be collecting a total of N1, 421,412,150 as housing allowance. Again, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives are excluded from this allowance as the Federal Government is to provide their own accommodation. Following the monetisation of entitlements of public officials, the lawmakers lost the right to occupy houses built and maintained by the government. Consequently, the Federal Government sold the houses previously occupied by the lawmakers to them. The principal officers of the National Assembly also benefited from the sale of the houses. As a result, the Federal Capital Territory Administration is at present building new houses for the lawmakers that will emerge as the Senate President, the Deputy Senate President, the Speaker and the Deputy Speaker. For furniture, each of the senators is to get N6, 079,200. The furniture for both the Senate President and his deputy are to be fully provided by the government. This means that 107 senators will get a total of N650, 474,400 as furniture allowance. Furniture allowance is paid once in four years. Each member of the House of Representatives will be paid N5, 955,637.50 as furniture allowance. This means that 358 representatives (excluding the speaker and his deputy) will collect a total of N2, 132,118,225 for furniture. For vehicle, each of the senators is entitled to N8, 105,600 while each representative is entitled to N7, 940,850.50. This means that 107 senators will collect N867, 299,200 for vehicle while 358 representatives will collect N2, 842,824,479 for the same purpose. The allowance for vehicle had been controversial. According to RMAFC, this allowance payable once in four years is a loan for any member that wants. This means that it is repayable. In 2007, each senator had been given the loan to purchase vehicles. Few months after they had received the loan, the current Senate President, David Mark, demanded that the money totalling about N856m should be converted to grants for official cars. Mark made the request in a letter addressed to the Chairman of the Revenue Mobilisation and Fiscal Allocation Commission. In the letter dated November 15, 2007 and titled “Monetisation policy as it affects senators of the Federal Republic of Nigeria,” Mark said the senators were not properly briefed that the money was given to them as loan. He said if senators had known that the money was loan, they would have had the opportunity to exercise the choice of refusal. He therefore requested that the money should be converted to official car allowance although according to the monetisation policy of the Federal Government, only the President of the Senate and his deputy are entitled to official cars. The funding for cars for other lawmakers had been built into their salaries which are paid on monthly basis. RMAFC insisted that the money was a loan and could not be converted to a grant as the lawmakers’ benefits had been monetised. It is not clear how the matter ended as both parties refused to respond to media requests on the issue. On the executive side, each minister that will serve in the cabinet of Buhari is entitled to a housing allowance of N3, 915,160. There are indications that the President-elect will shrink his cabinet by doing away with the ministers of state. However, there is a limit to how far he can reduce the cabinet positions. Constitutionally, each state of the federation must be represented in the cabinet. This leaves him with at least 36 ministers as against the 42 ministers in President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration. Cumulatively, the ministers are to receive N140, 945,760 as housing allowance. Each minister is also entitled to a furniture allowance of N6, 079,200. Cumulatively, this comes to N218, 851,200. Each of them is also entitled to a vehicle loan of N7, 830,320. This comes to a total of N281, 891,520. When put together, the housing, furniture and vehicle allowances payable to the lawmakers and ministers will amount to about N7.3bn. The remaining N1.7bn will cater for other perks of office such as motor vehicle maintenance, fuelling, and others. Apart from these irregular allowances, there are other regular perks of office that are paid to lawmakers on a monthly basis. These include motor vehicle maintenance and fuelling. This is pegged at 75 per cent of their monthly salary. Others are personal assistant, 25 per cent; domestic staff, 75 per cent; entertainment, 30 per cent; utilities, 30 per cent; newspapers/periodicals, 15 per cent; wardrobe, 25 per cent; house maintenance, five per cent; and constituency, 250 per cent. There are other entitlements that they do not receive direct payments for but are provided and paid for by the government. These are special assistants, security and legislative aides. What this means is that those engaged in these capacities are paid directly by the government as the allowances cannot be claimed by political office holders. These allowances apply to senators and members of the House of Representatives. Medical expenses are also borne by the government when they have need for them. The lawmakers are also entitled to tour duty allowance, estacode (when they travel) and recess allowances. For a senator, the tour duty allowance is N37, 000 per night; the estacode is $950 per night and the recess allowance is 10 per cent of their annual salary. For a member of the House of Representatives, the tour duty allowance is N35, 000 per night; the estacode is $900 per night and the recess allowance is 10 per cent of their annual salary. The allowances for ministers vary slightly from those of the lawmakers. The allowances of the ministers include motor vehicle fuelling and maintenance – 75 per cent of their salaries. David Cameron wins election.

  David Cameron is on course for an extraordinary victory as 'shy Tories' came out at the last moment to keep him in Downing Street. He said it was 'too early to say' what the final result of the General Election would be, but added that there was 'the chance now to build on the foundation' laid in the last parliament.

He said that inter-marriage by corps members would not only foster unity, also promote peaceful co-existence among the people of the state and others states of the federation. He congratulated the corps members for the successful completion of their academic programmes at their various institutions of learning. “I urge you to use the lessons and experience yougained during this orientation course to developyourselves, your host communities, the state andthe Nigeria at large. “You should see yourselves as agent of positivechange in the society. “I want to advise you todischarge your duties without fear or favour, andrelate freely with your host communities. “Ipromise automatic employment to any NYSC Batch‘A’ corps member who marries an indigenes inorder to promote peaceful co-existence amongthe people of the state and others states of thecountry.” Al-Makura said. 4 days ago in Karu Town, Abuja, an argument between a police corpor*l and his senior colleague, an inspector, over who ‘owns’ a pretty female recharge card seller, ended in tragedy when the corpor*l corked his rifle, killed the card seller and the inspector, before killing himself. The incident occurred when the corpor*l, who claimed he had invested in the girl. simply known as Chidinma, saw the inspector and the recharge seller sitting together over some bottles of soft drinks. 214 rescued girls pregnant – UNFPA

Following the latest rescue of additional 234 women and children by the Nigerian Army from the Sambisa Forest in Borno State, indicated, yesterday, that a sizeable number of the rescued girls were visibly pregnant, even as unofficial reports put the latest number of pregnant girls in one of the camps in Borno as at last Saturday at 214. Giving this indication in Lagos, Executive Director, UNFPA, Prof. Babatunde Osotimehin, also disclosed that in the last one year, the organization had taken deliveries of over 16,000 pregnancies in the troubled North East part of the country. Osotimehin, while giving update of the response to the rehabilitation of the rescued women and children,  said the organization, in anticipation of the magnitude of the problem on hand, had put in place a formidable team in collaboration with the Federal and state governments, to first restore the dignity of the girls, who, he said, are facing severe psychosocial trauma. On the state of the girls, he explained that most of them, due to the long period spent in captivity, required a special set of services that would facilitate their integration into society.  “What we found is that some of the women and girls that have come back actually have much more in terms of the stress they have faced, so the counselling has to be more intense and working with them one-on-one. “I’m glad the communities are not excommunicating them and are taking them back. That is an important therapy too. We anticipate this is going to escalate because the military intervention is continuing, we find that more people are now needing our services and we will continue,” he stated. Further, he explained that the UNFPA had earlier collaborated with the Federal and state governments to train 60 counsellors to offer psychosocial services to the affected women and children. He noted that those trained were people from the communities, who understand the context and sociology of the people.  “UNFPA is providing dignity for women. In conflict and disasters, most people would only think of water and sanitation, provision of tents and housing, and food, which are all important. But women and girls have specific needs that nobody else looks after; it is only UNFPA that is doing this. We are giving psychosocial counselling.  “Beyond that, in the growing young people, we will always have pregnant women, but nobody segregates the needs of the pregnant women which are very important and different from the needs of the average community. We look after them, and ensure they get antenatal care and that they deliver properly and that they even get Caesarean Section when necessary.
