Emir of Borgu, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro Kitoro III Is Dead



Emir of Borgu Kingdom The Mai Borgu, the traditional ruler of Borgu Emirate, Alhaji Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro III, yesterday passed on in Germany where he was receiving medical attention. He was 77 years old.
A family source informed that the late Emir was flown to Germany four days after the last Sallah celebration when he suddenly took ill. He added that the late Emir was accompanied overseas by his son, Nasir Jikantoro, who was also with him when he died and called some title holders to announce the death of his father.


WEEKEND LEADERSHIP gathered that when the news of the death was broken to the family yesterday in New Bussa by the Galadima of Borgu Kingdom, Khalifat Mohammed, the entire Kingdom was thrown into a mourning session as the people expressed shock over the death of their paramount ruler.
Also announcing the death yesterday, Niger State government stated that the Royal Father died early yesterday during a brief illness.

A statement by the Secretary to the Government of Niger State (SSG), Shehu Umar Danyaya, reads thus: “The death has occurred of His Royal Highness, Senator Haliru Dantoro, Kitoro III, the Emir of Borgu. The late Senator Haliru Dantoro died in the early hours of today after a brief illness”.

The Secretary to the State Government described late Senator Dantoro as a man of exemplary character, humble, respectful, devoted and dedicated to the development of Borgu Kingdom, Niger State and Nigeria in general.

“The deceased was a highly trustworthy and he contributed immensely in fashioning out pragmatic mechanism to improving the existing circumstances of the people of his domain and Nigerlites as a whole”, the statement read in part.
It added that the government enjoined the people to pray to Almighty God to grant the deceased eternal rest and also give the family, government and people of Niger State the fortitude. (Amin)
